Visit the Mont Saint Michel

The story begins in 709 with theappearance of the Archangel Saint-Michel to Bishop Aubert. The latter ordered him to build a sanctuary on the rocky islet of Mont Tombe, in the heart of a gigantic bay where the world’s highest tides occur. This is the beginning of the history of Mont Saint Michel.

Since then, the medieval village has welcomed pilgrims and tourists alike, who flock here to discover the Abbey, the ramparts, the pretty little streets, the gardens, the main street and the famous timber-framed house.

Access to this medieval masterpiece, Mont Saint Michel, is free.

Classified as a historic monument in 1874, Mont Saint-Michel remains a major Christian pilgrimage site. The site has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1979.

Some 3.5 million people visit this Normandy tourist attraction every year.

For a peaceful visit, we advise you to leave early in the morning, to be on site as soon as it opens. Pay parking lots are located in front of the footbridge, which has restored the site’s maritime character.

You can book priority tickets on the Mont Saint Michel Abbey website for a guided tour to discover towers, monumental rooms and panoramic views.

We have information leaflets available at the campsite reception, and you can also find out more about this listed site on the web. A kennel is availablefor a fee at the tourist information center.
