In 1985, the mayor of Caen plans to build a museum of remembrance in the city of Caen. Far from only being dedicated to the D-Day and the Battle of Caen, the Memorial is a museum telling the history of the twentieth century. It does show the history of the Second World War but tackles every aspect of it, and aims to celebrate peace.
After the construction of the Hall of Nobel Prize, the Museum continued this commitment to openness with another extension completed in 2002. Through various media, it offers a succession of thought-inducing spaces with a unique tone, and seeks a global reach with its International Park.
L’Escapade**** Campsite is located about 40 minutes (40 kilometers) from the Caen Memorial museum.
